Brothers in Arms Weekend
Highlights the challenges and contributions of African Americans in the era of the American Revolutionary War. Experience the Brothers-In-Arms 18th-century encampment, military demonstrations and dramatic character interpretation. Visit the encampments where Dunmore's Royal Ethiopian and the Rhode Island Regiment bring to life a forgotten part of American history. Colonial Williamsburg.

Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race
16th Annual Race sailing race from Baltimore, MD to Portsmouth, VA to benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Elizabeth River Project. Open to professional and recreational sailors. The sailing ships should arrive in Portsmouth on the 14th and 15th. Awards ceremony and oyster roast to be held at North Landing, Portsmouth.

The 224th anniversary of America's victory at Yorktown. To experience Continental Army life firsthand, visitors can enroll in "A School for the Soldier" to try on uniforms, march to the beat of a Revolutionary drum and join in other hands-on military activities. Special programs also are held in Yorktown and the Yorktown Battlefield. Yorktown.

Stockley Gardens Arts Festival
150 artists exhibit a wide variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography, and many others. Throughout the weekend visitors can children's activities, live musical entertainment at the main stage and food. Norfolk.

Ghost Train at Northwest River Park
Ride the terrifying train and see the haunts and ghouls of the haunted woods of Northwest River Park. Tickets go on sale, at all community centers, online and at Northwest River Park on October 1. Night of the Living Museum
Family Halloween featuring live animal shows, a night trail walk and various creatures of the night. Screech Street USA
Costume parade down Atlantic Avenue. Then gather at the 24th Street Park's "Spooky Village" for carnival games, broom toss, pumpkin rolling, trick-or-treating, a hay maze for preschoolers, storytelling, face painting, doughnut decorating, scavenger hunt, and costume contest. Tractor-pulled hayrides on the boardwalk for everyone. 24th Street Park, Virginia Beach oceanfront.
