Williamsburg Independence Weekend
Special programs throughout the weekend include a Founding Father speaking on American Independence, the Declaration of Independence being read and cannons saluting the original 13 states. On Monday the 4th, the Fifes and Drums perform in the evening as a prelude to fireworks in the style of those popular at the time our nation was born. Colonial Williamsburg.

Yorktown - The Road to Independence
Salute America during an annual Fourth of July event leading up to 2006, the 225th anniversary year of the momentous American victory at Yorktown. Interpretive programs will emphasize the shift of Revolutionary War military action to the Southern colonies in 1780. Visitors can join in military drills and learn about the sacrifices of our nation's founders, including those who signed the Declaration of Independence. Yorktown Victory Center.

Virginia Beach Stars & Stripes Explosion
Music, fun in the sun, and fireworks over the ocean create a patriotic tapestry enjoyed by all! Enjoy the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Beach Chorale as they perform favorite patriotic, classical, and Broadway standards on a stage built right on the beach at 20th Street. End the night with the sounds of classic rock and roll at the 24th Street Park and one of the most dramatic fireworks displays on the East Coast. Free. Virginia Beach oceanfront.

Norfolk Great American Picnic and Fireworks
Arena Racing USA teams compete in the Firecracker 40 street race. Join in the Backyard Olympics that include such fun contests as the Ants in Your Pants Relay Race and the Slip 'n Slide Speedway. Norfolk honors the 4th with a moving Navy re-enlistment ceremony, followed by a patriotic performance by the US Atlantic Fleet Band and a big fireworks display over the water. The Peninsula's largest Independence Day celebration features nationally known entertainers, food vendors, children's rides and fireworks over the James River. Free admission. Celebrating its 23rd season as the largest outdoor Jazz Festival in this region, this year's Friday show features a jazz festival favorite, Spyro Gyra.
